I’ve been in the telecom industry for over 20 years. My journey began at Proximus, the largest mobile provider in Belgium, where I worked as a departmental secretary. After moving to Denmark in 2005, I took on roles in customer service and delivery with various companies, including Telsome and Síminn, which were later acquired by larger firms. I transitioned into technical and project management roles before joining ipvision, which eventually became part of Dstny by acquisition. My familiarity with the industry and continuous curiosity for evolving telecom technologies led me to this path.
Initially, it was a practical decision—a job close to home after returning from maternity leave. Before that, I worked as a flight attendant, but now I needed more stable hours and a role that allowed for a better work-life balance. I found a position as a departmental secretary at Proximus, which was close to where I lived. Once I got into telecom, I was drawn to the dynamic nature of the field, and it just snowballed from there. Telecom has always been rapidly evolving, and the constant change kept me engaged and motivated to stay.
I started as a project manager focused on customer deliveries. Over time, my responsibilities shifted more towards internal projects aimed at improving systems used by both colleagues and customers. Internal projects provide ongoing engagement and allow me to see how my efforts directly benefit my colleagues. It’s been fulfilling to contribute to projects that streamline operations and enhance overall efficiency, and it’s rewarding to witness the positive impact these projects have on day-to-day operations.
Aligning local projects with global strategies can be challenging. We need to ensure that developments in Denmark are also beneficial for other regions, which requires understanding diverse market needs. Balancing local and global priorities is complex but essential. To manage this uncertainty, we rely on cross-border collaboration, sharing insights with teams in other countries, and learning from each other’s experiences. For example, I’ve worked closely with the Belgian team to leverage shared knowledge and improve our delivery processes.
Yes, very much. When Dstny acquired ipvision, it felt like reconnecting with my roots in Belgium. The acquisition was like a homecoming, linking me back to where my career began. The global touchpoints make the work even more enriching and personal. I’ve even traveled to Belgium for a week-long assessment to understand their operations better, which strengthened these connections and broadened my perspective.
My day starts at 7:00 AM, checking emails and managing tasks related to customer self-service and billing improvements. I also assist with deliveries and handle customer service, especially when we’re short-staffed. Each day involves a mix of project management, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Taking a 2 km walk after lunch helps clear my mind. It’s a small break that refreshes me for the afternoon. Some colleagues do additional fitness exercises at the office, but I usually stick to my routine of walks. Outside of the office, I stay active through mountain biking and step training at the gym, which keep me energized and motivated throughout the week.
I look forward to greater integration across borders, fostering a sense of unity within Dstny. This will enhance collaboration and help us work more effectively as one global team. I’m also excited to see how ongoing and future technological advancements can streamline our operations and elevate the services we provide to our customers.
